Signs You Were Prophetic as a Child (You Just Didn’t Know)

This blog post is for those who have always sensed that something about them was different—even as a child—but never had the language to explain it.
Many prophetic people don’t suddenly discover their calling later in life. The signs were present early. They showed up through sensitivity, discernment, creativity, leadership instincts, dreams, and isolation. You just didn’t know what you were experiencing at the time.
As you read, don’t just read my story. Pay attention to where you see yourself.
1. You Spoke Destiny Before You Had Understanding
One of my earliest prophetic memories goes back to when I was four years old. I clearly spoke and declared that when I grew up, I wanted to be like my childhood caretaker’s daughter, who was a cosmetology student at the time. I didn’t just admire her—I articulated who I would become.
Years later, she opened her own successful salon. As for me, from childhood forward, my life aligned with that declaration. By age eight, I was sweeping salon floors. By fourteen, I was a shampoo assistant. By eighteen, I graduated cosmetology school. From my early twenties through 2022, I owned and operated my own salon and made history in natural hair in Rockland County, New York.
If this was you, you may have spoken about your future with unusual clarity at a young age. You may have said things adults brushed off as imagination or “big dreams,” yet your life kept aligning with what you spoke.
That wasn’t coincidence. That was prophetic articulation before maturity.
2. You Carried Unusual Wisdom and Were Labeled an “Old Soul”
As far back as I can remember, people often described me as having an “old soul.” While that language isn’t spiritually precise, it was the only way people knew how to describe the depth, awareness, and insight they observed in a child.
I was creative, inspired, internally perceptive, and often seemed to understand more than I should have at that age.
If this was you, you may have been told you were wise beyond your years, unusually observant, or different from other children. You may have noticed things others overlooked or understood situations before they were explained.
That wasn’t random maturity. That was early wisdom operating before it had language.
3. You Were Deeply Affected by Injustice and Felt Pushed Into Leadership
Even as a child, I felt compelled to stand up for what was right. I defended those who couldn’t defend themselves, confronted bullies, and spoke up—even to adults—when something felt wrong.
Leadership followed me even when I wasn’t looking for it. I could sense when something was off, and I wasn’t afraid to tell the truth.
If this was you, you may have been labeled “strong-willed,” “too serious,” or “too bold.” You may have felt burdened by unfairness or responsibility earlier than others your age.
That wasn’t rebellion. That was prophetic justice wiring.
4. You Were Spiritually Sensitive Before Anyone Knew What to Call It
As a child, I could see spirits and demonic presences that attempted to torment me. My mother, unaware of what was happening spiritually, told me it was my imagination.
I didn’t entertain what I saw. I was afraid of it. Over time, my spiritual eyes were, in a sense, shut down until high school, when they reopened.
If this was you, you may have sensed things others couldn’t, felt fear you couldn’t explain, or been told to ignore what you were perceiving. Your discernment may have gone dormant—not because it wasn’t real, but because it wasn’t understood.
This is why it’s important not to dismiss what children see, sense, or articulate.
5. You Felt Everything Deeply and Were Drawn to Beauty, Creation, and Life
I felt everything deeply. My love for art wasn’t casual—it was immersive. I took art as an elective all the way through high school. I felt deeply connected to beauty, nature, and God’s creation.
At one point, I had a rabbit, fish, parakeets, and hamsters all at the same time. I carried a deep care for animals and the natural world.
If this was you, you may have been labeled “too sensitive.” You may have felt emotionally affected by beauty, animals, music, or nature in ways others didn’t understand.
That sensitivity wasn’t weakness. It was spiritual awareness.
BONUS: You Were a Vivid Dreamer Before You Had Language for It
As far back as I can remember, I was always a dreamer. My dreams were vivid, memorable, and stayed with me long after I woke up. Even when I didn’t understand them, I knew they meant something.
At the time, I didn’t have language for dreams as communication or insight. I just knew my inner world was active and symbolic.
If this was you, you may have had dreams as a child that felt real, emotional, or meaningful. You may have remembered them clearly or sensed they carried messages you couldn’t yet interpret.
That wasn’t imagination. That was early prophetic sensitivity operating before instruction.
To sum it up, these signs aren’t meant to label every child as prophetic. Liking animals alone doesn’t make someone prophetic. Fear alone doesn’t equal discernment.
What matters is pattern.
How I Can Help.
If you recognize yourself in multiple areas—early wisdom, justice sensitivity, spiritual awareness, deep feeling, dreams, and destiny articulation—those may be early prophetic markers.
God marks prophetic people early, even before they understand what they’re carrying.
